Not me. I've thought about the possibility while driving through and hope it never happens.

You need to focus less on sprawl and more on upgrading mass transit and taller buildings in limited downtown regions to get the most out of having more residences around.

Probably this, though one never knows with absolute certainty since there were those BRAC rounds around the early 90s. But just because a base is closed doesn't mean it's going to be quickly or safely developed anyway, just look at the troubles with the land around MCAS El Toro and Tustin.

You don't like the way the Earth looks.

FFS - that is the most asinine thing I have ever read.

I think you're totally insane...that buffer zone between OC & North San Diego County is the last stretch of natural beauty left in that area. I hope it NEVER changes! Really, who would want that????

I actually like that camp, around there you have some nice views of the pacific from the 5, very scenic. I used to drive from LA to San Diego a lot, and I always like the interruption from non-stop suburbia by that camp.

If I remember right, it's only 8 miles long.

How does that make me a troll? I'm not even the OP of that thread you posted.

Camp Pendleton will never leave and shouldn't. I also agree with the folks on this thread. We do not need to build anymore. I was born and raised in California as were my parents. I am 62 yrs old. Enough is enough. Traffic is horrible. I don't hate anyone but in order to save the planet - can't keep squeezing in all these people or we will end up like China...

OP is not the only one that wants endless concrete and asphalt. The SD forum has quite a few that want to build build build and cram as many people into as small a space as possible. They've even floated (pun intended) a new airport offshore.

IMO probably the best thing that could happen is another WW.

I like both urban AND rural environemnts. However if i really wanted the full wilderness experience, then i'd drive 2 hour east into the mountains. If i wanted to appeciate our coast without development, i'd drive to Big Sur.

It's just that i see Camp Pendleton as huge potential to create a modern public space worth visiting. Not exactly a tourist spot or landmark but something that gives the land a reason to visit and makes it different than your normal typical coastal suburb.

This is an example, not my proposal, but imagine a European like plaza and village with NO cars, a society based on walking friendly neighborhoods along the beach, and if you wanted to hike, you can walk there instead of hopping on the freeway or surface streets.
