Wow, whoppie, Governor Brown makes California the highest wage state in the nation.
Before you get out the balloons, and applause, best step back and take a long hard look at what is going on here in California, and for that matter the rest of the country.

Because I live here in California, I will only address the issues here, but as I just said, the rest of the country is more than likely in the same boat.

So ask yourself, why did Brown sign this wage bill?
Simple, people are tired of not making a living wage.
Many marched in the streets for a decent wage.
Why are people unable to afford things after working a forty hour week?
Again, simply put, prices for everything are too high.

Poor people have always taken the brunt of high prices, it isn't something new, and despite this new wage increase, they will sill remain poor.

The average price to rent a two bedroom apartment in many areas of Los Angeles is over $2500, and I believe that is a conservative amount.
San Francisco is much higher.

There is one thing, and one thing only fueling the high prices for everything in this state, and that is G.R.E.E.D, coupled with that good ole supply and demand.

I believe there was a revolution taking place in the world of business, and the wool was placed over the American consumer"s eyes, which made them oblivious to what was happening.

Two things here in California led to this conspiracy, those being oil companies, and the tech industry., and I won't even get into the car companies.
California relies heavily on all three..
All of these industries operate on supply and demand.
The higher the demand, the higher the price.
That is called good ole capitalism.

Unfortunately the poor do without, because they just can't afford today's prices, so they march in the streets until someone pays attention.
The poor have many reasons why they are poor, but there is only ONE reason most of them will always be poor, and that is called greed by big,and small business.
Business blames their need for higher prices are due to what it cost to run a business.
I believe this is true to some extent, but greed enters into it as well.

I will use Starbucks as an example, of what I call real greed.
Who in there right mind believes a cup of coffee should cost over $2.00?
For sure, not me, and Starbucks putting some fancy name on it isn't going to sway me to enter their store.
They, along with many businesses charge high prices because they know they can get away with it, and those fools with the wool over their eyes, gladly frequent these type of companies on a daily basis.

Face it, the public has been brainwashed by business, and as long as we are subsidizing their greed, it will never change, and the poor will always be poor.

Bob.

I don't get the complaint. Who cares that Starbucks sells a $2 cup of coffee? It's a free country. If you don't like it start your own coffee shop and sell 10-cent cups of joe. Why do you care what Starbucks and its customers do with their money?

The poor are poor because they suck at making money. Making money is a skill, just like everything else. To some people it comes easy, to some not so easy. Some come to learn it, others can't get the hang of it no matter what they try. Such is life.

Should the government force the NBA to provide me a starting spot on the Lakers roster even though I'm short, can't dribble to save my life, and have about a 6-inch vertical jump? No. I don't have the skills to make it in the NBA, so I don't deserve to be in the NBA. I don't cry and throw hissy fits about it, the same way I don't cry and throw hissy fits that I can't be rich.

Being rich isn't a natural right. Earning a living wage isn't a natural right. Having education and healthcare isn't a natural right. Having a roof over your head isn't a natural right. Having food in your stomach isn't a natural right. All of those things are dependent on your life skills. Sometimes those skills are shaped by your determination and drive, other times their shaped by nature and circumstance. Either way, they're YOUR responsibility and YOUR problem. Society owes you nothing.

All this whining about being poor is really getting old. If poor people spent half as much time doing something to better their lives as they do bitching and moaning, they'd be in a way better place in their lives. It's not my fault you're poor, the same way it's not your fault I'm 6 feet tall.

Instead of raising minimum wage they should try lowering taxes and especially lowering business taxes that drive entire businesses out of the state. Typical liberal band aid solution istead of addressing root causes

Yes, good points for sure. I think a huge part of the issue as well is that the educational system teaches people pretty much nothing in regards to financial education. I have to believe if people were more informed and less ignorant about basic economics or how a business works, things would be much different.

But then again, we can't just put the blame on the educational system. Especially nowadays there are unlimited opportunities to education oneself for free via free public libraries, the internet, etc.

McDonald's for example is a huge target of these protesters..their argument is that "McDonald's makes billions...they can afford to pay us $15 hr!" ...but it seems they are ignorant to the fact that many McD's are owned by individual franchisees. So many McD's are basically small businesses.

Unfortunately it seems the 'politically correct' thing to do is appease these protestors and promise them $15 hr..which is what Gov.Brown has done.
Now of course it's not far enough that CA and other states have enacted this law...but there is a nationwide push for $15hr.

It's scary to think of how that would ruin the nationwide economy. Yet these politicians that should know better are going to stand up there with the protestors and give them a dog and pony show about how they "deserve more"

The crux of the attached vid is in the last few seconds:

"They are voting for Sanders because they LIKE him."

Ultimately, in politics, that's what matters. This is why even if a candidate is factually correct 100%, he is still also 100% "wrong" if his speaking style offends, upsets, or angers people or makes them feel insulted or belittled. WHAT'S said by the candidate is pretty much irrelevant. It's his personality that makes or breaks him.

Those 'interviews', if they did anything, just further reinforced those loyalties. Not made anyone stop and question them. Nobody likes being told that they are are an idiot or that they hold a fundamentally flawed belief system. The concepts of fair, logical, and practical do not apply here.

Videos like that may be entertaining to watch. But the producers of them are delusional if they think that mocking and making fun of a particular voting bloc is going to convince any of them to join you. If anything, the exact opposite will be the outcome.

The poor are too dumb to realize that raising the minimum wage means their jobs will be cut.

And, even after the law has passed, they are still out there protesting to "raise muh wage"

True. Some of the hardest working people in America and the world are poor.
I would never call someone working a manual labor job like a housekeeper or janitor or gardener lazy.

The problem is that even at $15, when inflation on EVERYTHING from food to housing is added in, people will still be poor. Even today at $15 hr in L.A one is pretty much going to be considered poor.

Full time at $15hr is $2600 a month . Renting a 1 bedroom apartment in L.A will eat up a bunch of that.
Then car (insurance, gas, etc) , basic food, phone bill and other necessities eat up the rest.

Actually some of the richest people can be pretty lazy. They figure out ways to delegate and have other people do the work for them and leverage other people's time ,effort ,etc.

This quote has been attributed to Bill Gates and I think there is a lot of truth to it.
"I will always choose a lazy person to do a difficult job because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it."

I would.

I know several housekeepers and gardeners that are lazy as can be. They do the bare minimum to get by at their job and what they do do is usually subpar.

It's a myth that the poor are hardworking, salt-of-the-earth types. The vast majority of poor people I know (and I know plenty) are average to below average at the effort they put in. The ones that really apply themselves quickly rise to the top and open up new opportunities for themselves.

Clocking in hours at a job does not equal working hard. All it means is that you're now demanding money for your time. What you do with that time is another story. Most people, poor and rich, do just enough to stay in that meaty part of the bell curve. They're average. Only difference is the rich have more to show for being average than the poor do.

Bob.

I have not read other's responses yet, but I posted in another state that I am going to move to away from CA. my title was "Supply and Demand".....as people began responding....and I discussed that NEED for rent control and also discussed greed and how young people ....lets call them Millennials...haha cannot afford to buy homes in any area near large cities (for their jobs).
Maybe due to being female, I was berated for my comments.....told that was how Capitalism works....etc...and the I was a die hard liberal Socialist....haha, Im a staunch Republican....

So it is nice to read your post,,,,,it is not a liberal idea to think that there should be some form of rent control and homes should be more affordable.
Heres this.....If things are so unaffordable...from food to housing...why should anyone be honest....why not cheat on your taxes...never pay your credit card bills etc.......oh they'll get you eventually....not necessarily.
Unfortunately, regardless of who becomes president...nothing will change......maybe I am wrong.....but American needs to concentrate on America and never mind letting all these people into this country.......etc....but thats another discussion.
RENT CONTROL.....I lived in Boston...rents are absolutely outrageous....Landowners guess what..take advantage of all the young college kids coming into city for school...thats okay rich Mommy and Daddy have no problem paying..
Nor rich like us, my son lives in a tiny room in SF so he could go to college there....
