Anyone familiar with this route? I know it's opposite traffic, but once you get into the Hollywood area, I feel like it could get pretty congested both ways.

Yea, I am familiar with that commute!! From Hollywood, just take the 101 north to the 405, north. Once on the 405, it will eventually merge into INT. 5, just stay on the 5 till you get to Valencia or Magic Mountain if that is where you are going.

With no traffic, it should take less than an hour.

it's a reverse commute, but traffic may still be bad getting into the valley. once you get to the 170, you'll be free and clear though. DO NOT USE THE 405. That is a terrible recommendation. The 170 merges with the 5 and the next thing you know, you'll be in santa clarita. in the evening, traffic can back up in the santa clarita area, but should be mostly clear with more slowing in the hollywood area.

Am I missing something, the OP wrote from Hollywood to Valencia. Perhaps the thread should've been written from Valencia to Hollywood.

Yes the 170 would be best, my mistake. I use to live in the Valley so the 405 was the route I took many times.

Nope, was looking at a job in Valencia, and possibly living in Hollywood.

The 405 North in the Valley is actually empty in the morning. Just because the South is a nightmare doesn't mean the North is. The only reason why I wouldn't take the 405 is because it is out of the way and the 170 North is a direct shot.

...and getting to the 405 from hollywood requires a drive through the city or on the 101, both of which would be awful during morning commuting hours.

The 101 North between the 134 and 405 is actually clear in the mornings as long as you're on the road by 7 AM. I lived in Sherman Oaks for years and did this exact commute going from the 101 North to 405 North.
