How about we just let this thread go quietly back into the dead folder?
You know, you're probably right, RosieSD.

I apologize for reviving this thread back up.

I can add that I had to move and I now live in Los Banos. It's located in San Joaquin Valley, which is pretty much Central California.. It's still close enough to Gilroy and San Jose that I'm able to keep my doctors etc. However, the weather here is very different than what I'm used to, and it gets VERY hot. No a/c is not an option. I like that it's a very small town, but it wish there were stores like Safeway. Gets really windy and a car cover helps

Move away from the coastline an hour or so, there are a lot of cheap areas. Probably "not that nice" in many People's eyes.....but much cheaper than the coast.

There is a nice Petro truck stop in nearby Santa Nella, I liked stopping there when I still drove OTR and had to pull loads to Oakland and San Jose

anywhere not along the coastal ranges is going to be hot, I think all of inland CA is hot in the summer, probably easier to buy a portable air conditioner, than to find a place with cheap rent where it does not get hot in summer.

Maybe Indio, Thermal and Mexican border towns like El Centro.

Places that are hot, boring, low income with high unemployment.
