If I heard anyone IRL refer to California as "Cali," I'd probably burst out laughing.

I should of revised my post. My issue isn't with the question itself more my issue is with people that look down upon someone using the world "Cali." If you are the type of person that gets annoyed by the word and responds with "OH IDK CALI is in South America" or "OMG YOU ARE A NEWB HERE GTFO" then you are a condescending douche, in my humble opinion of course. Maybe some of your fellow Cali residents will high-five you for correcting people using the word Cali.

But I do wonder since these "douches" are so keen on authenticity, I wonder how they would respond when a native Spanish speaker corrects their Anglo pronunciation of "California" or cities name that have a Spanish etymology?

The premise of this thread assumes that everywhere else in the world 'rubs' everyone the right way and CA is an anamoly that is the only place some people dont like.

fyi to the OP: No place rubs all people the right way.

True. But a good rub is what we all seek, IMO ... cats, dogs, people alike. Had me one just last night

All I know is I called California "Cali" on one of these threads... and the first thing I was told is how people would laugh and make fun of me if I called it that while visiting there. I found that offensive... and I'll leave it at that.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

For example :

"Do these pants make me look fat?".

No, it isn't the PANTS that make you look fat.
