To me Napa and Palm Springs are the 2 most beautiful areas of Ca. How can she not like Napa? I can see some people don't like dessert but Napa is gorgeous

The diverse climates is one of the most unique things of the state of California. Its something not many states have.

I always considered the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs, Indio, etc) to be a smaller metropolitan area & separate from the Greater Los Angeles area. The dividing line would be that climb on Interstate 10 at Whitewater (eastend of San Gorgonio Pass).

The Palm Springs Metro looks nice at night when you go downhill on I-10 west from the Chiriaco Summit.
