It is official now. SLO will lose thousands of jobs and millions in tax revenues. But it is a good thing for the environment. I know families refuse to live in SLO city because it is way too close (less than 20 miles) to the power plant...

I think it is a bad thing for Diablo to close down. When you talk about the loss of good high paying jobs, the millions upon millions of dollars in tax revenue that supported local education and services.

As for the environment, they have been in operation for over 30 years, has there ever been an environmental issue?? Not that I recall, and I am a local to Diablo Canyon.

I am just glad it wont be till 2025, who knows, maybe PG&E will change their minds.

And what if there's a 7.6 earthquake (or higher which is quite possible .... likely?)
It was upgraded to withstand a 7.5 quake.
Duh. Why would human beings build a nuclear power plant near major fault lines?
I'm glad that it finally closing. I wish it would happen sooner.

Cool, more fossil fuel use. More CO2 in the atmosphere slowly cooking us, and more slowly turning the seas to acid.

This is brilliant. Because its way better to pump our waste product into the biosphere to wreak planetary havoc than have it sitting in a solid state in casks on site or in a storage facility, where it might contaminate some nearby land, hundreds of years from now.
