Visiting in CA from Southern AZ. Traveling up coast to Hearst Castle and Cambria area. Would like advice on a decent route back to AZ that avoids LA altogether. Does not matter if we wind up north of Phoenix as long as we do not have to do LA. Would depart from Cambria.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How about from Cambria take 46 east toward Bakersfield. Find your way to Barstow. South to Joshua Tree. East through the desert to Parker, AZ. Head down to I-10

Thank you for the reply. Will give that a shot. Was hoping for some route the natives might know about and that Google might not.

Anything but LA though.

Cheers.

Get over to Bakersfield. Then 58 east toward Tehachapi. At Barstow you can continue east or head south.

Just a bit of history. When you drive east on 46 toward Lost Hills and ultimately Bakersfield you will drive past Cholame where James Dean was killed in a car crash in 1955. Blink and you will miss it.
