On the CA title the MO code appears to be a 2 letter code, next to Class and *Yr. I've been trying to figure out what the hell it means but have had 0 luck searching the DMV website or vehicle codes. On an initial registration printout MO is next to MP, which is clearly motive power. The MO code doesn't seem to have anything to do with VLF fees.

Examples I've seen are UW, UV, WV, WR, XP, SW

The odd thing is that the MO codes are different for my title and registration for the same vehicle.

Sounds like you've researched this quite a bit.

Have you actually talked to the DMV yet?

Everything short of that. I was hoping someone else already had, or rather I thought that I couldn't be the first to wonder if the code represented anything of significance.

I don't have any other burning questions for the DMV, and not sure how thrilled they'd be with an idle curiosity call.
