By coincidence, here in the East, I just saw a car with these plates. I did a double take as they looked familiar (remembering plates from long ago) but I knew that modern CA plates are different. They looked cool! It was nice to see a plain, unvarnished legible plate without all the promotion that states put on them now.

Being a cyclist, (both bicycle and motorcycle), I'm very conscious about visibility. That's why I like the reflectorized plates. Have to admit that the black plates do look attractive of some cars, but because they are a lot more stealthy than the reflectorized plates, I'll never get them. Just one more way for the state to generate income for itself.

i assume that you know that they're not really old plates.
but i agree with you ... i see them all over santa cruz county this summer ... on new and "yuppie" cars. looks stupid imo.

I like them. I just ordered my own a couple days ago when I renewed my registration on my black car, which is 2016 model year.

They are reflectorized...

I too think they look odd on most new cars... I have originals on most of my cars and they are period correct for many...

I like them. I'd like it more if we'd get a standard-issue attractive graphic on the California plates... like we used to have back in the 80s with the "sunset" ones. That ugly handwritten script is way, way past its prime (if it ever had one).

I did not know that! I've only noticed the new plate style during daylight hours. Are only the orange letters reflectorized, or the black background also?
