Hello,
I recently got a job in Santa Clara during the week, and I need to commute in the morning over the hill from santa cruz. My hours are fairly flexible.
What are the best times to go over 17 in the morning?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you want to leave very early in the morning (let's say by 7 a.m. or thereabouts) wait until after 9 a.m. and head back over 17 by 3 at the latest. You'll still be dealing with some a.m and the p.m. traffic though.
Traffic in S.C. county (17 and hwy1) has gotten truly insane. It's been bad for a long time but now it's just ridiculous.
It used to be that i could travel south on hwy1 around the county before 3 and it would be o.k.. By 3:30 it would already be quite congested. Now, by 2:30 it's already very heavy.
Good luck and drive safely. On 17, two hands on the wheel and don't compete. Ideally, stay in the right lane. When it's raining, give yourself plenty of extra time.
Good luck. You'll need it.

Thank you for the very helpful information! I definitely second your opinions on driving safely on 17. As you mentioned, highway 17 is even more hectic than I remember driving.
