They sent a letter to me saying I owe 225 for 1996, which has mushroomed into 1270....I moved to AZ in early 1995..left nothing in ca. I think they may have tried to raid a bank account at discover bank, which had no money in it. The transaction was from LA...the only fraudulent activity I have had in 10 years...and get this...when I was talking to ftb, the woman knew I had accounts at discover and HSBC...I closed my account with chase..I just want at least a chance for a day in court. This is an outrage.

It's not likely they could legally raid Discover Bank without a Utah court order. Discover Bank seems to be in Utah.

Fraudulent transactions often originate in L.A. It's like Nigeria. There is no real reason to believe the FTB was involved.

One would think....but..I've researched this quite a bit. The OP says his bad account was raided...that's Charlotte, I believe. Quite a few others say TD Ameritrade....they file the liens in LA where the banksters have their corporate offices. It used to be they had to ghgho to the branch the account was opened at, but if they have more than nine branches...it can all be done at the main office.

I thought banks in different states were different banks. For example, Bank of America in California is a different bank than Bank of America in North Carolina. Or has that changed recently?

That changed years ago. I recall when a California WFC customer couldn't deposit in Nevada...way different now.

Registration was never an issue prior to Non-OP status for a fee.

Once you had to surrender the plate or renew or pay non-op fee things changed.

California is the only State where I have had to pay a fee NOT to use my vehicle.

I've got project cars going back 40 years... with California Titles in my name... this was before paid Non-Op and it gets complicated even with title and last reg in hand and I have never moved...

You did not need to turn in your personalized plates to the greedy dmv. You paid for those & the dmv had no right in accepting them from you. Years ago I had personalized plates & I sold my car & kept the plates. I no longer wanted to pay annually for them on the next car I bought. They are currently hanging on my wall at home. I know someone who has a ca & az drivers license. He has homes in both states. The az license is valid much longer & costs less then ca (most states do). Non ops now cost $20.00 in ca (UGH!!).
