LAO: 'Hundreds of millions' at risk from Facebook slide

"Menlo Park-based Facebook closed Wednesday trading at $20.88 per share, a new low 45 percent below the initial price. The state Department of Finance assumed the social media giant would trade at $35 by November, while the Analyst's Office believed it would trade at $42 at that time."

When social media is propping up a government the size of California's, shouldn't we all be a little embarrassed? Facebook? Really?

I really doubt they were required to invest, but whatever stock they do have, I believe they can't sell for a certain period of time after the IPO.

Bankers and Zuckerberg would like to have investors think they've just invented the next Model T or iPod. The reality is the product they've created has the the shelf life of seafood. Other flavors once included MySpace and Friendster.

I just read another article last night that said FB has 83000 fake members which was felt to contribute to decreased value. Some of Mr Z's old interviews are cropping up & showing him to not be a man of integrity...he will lie & give out private info to benefit himself.

If FB is like any other company, the company based stock option is highly pushed, & frequently given out as reward instead of a bonus. I'm sure there was a huge rah rah buildup where employees were highly "encouraged" to buy FB stock. If employees are brainwashed to think they are the best, they're gonna buy their companies stock. Many people who don't participate in the company sponsored retirement plan, buy stock instead thinking it always goes up.

Not selling stock for a specific length of time is typical, and usually doesn't matter to the average employee....because stock ALWAYS goes up.

The desperate gang (the few on this forum who refuse to see anything wrong in CA) were looking forward to fleecing FB of their stock profits. Shucks - looks like they will have to find new victims. How about taxing green, phoney energy? Phoney because it can't exist without subsidies.

As is our current non-green energy too. Oil/gasoline can not exist at the prices they are without subsidies.

Exactly. I cannot figure out why anyone would invest in a social networking sites. Facebook may have lasted longer but it too will be replaced. Bebo is growing in popularity now.

I bet it's way higher than that. I created one for a bunch of people just so they can't be identified posting comments to articles in local sites
