Will be moving to the are by May. Thinking of renting for the first couple of months. I was wondering however where the best areas are to check out. I have a toddler I need to enroll in kindergarten. Is there a YMCA close by? I'd like to be away from the jet noise if it's avoidable.

In the Navy? Assigned to a Naval Air Station (NAS)? Knows that jet a/c fly out of a NAS (afterburners and all).? Knows that a NAS is not usually located in close proximity to a city (where YMCA's are)? Deal with it ! ! Our troops are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan. A little jet engine noise or no YMCA nearby is not much a sacrifice.
When I was a kid, I asked my mother what all the noise and sonic booms were (during the mid 50's), she simply said, "That is the sound of freedom". "Those planes are protecting all of us." I never forgot and now love the sound of jet "thunder" and did so during my Navy enlistment at NAS Lemoore and on 5 different a/c carrier flight decks between '63 and '66. Tell your kids the same thing. That loud noise is nothing to be afraid of....it is just the sound of freedom working to protect us all.

Yo, ADJ. Welcome to the forum. But do you realize that all these threads you have been responding to are years old and deceased? I realize you are "reconnecting" to a part of your past. But a more productive focus for your reminiscing would probably be found on the "Military Forum" of CityData. Or better yet, on various military web-rings.

Good luck and enjoy.
