The federal gas tax hasn't been raised in over 20 years. It would need to be raised to 27 cents today just to keep up with inflation.

A good example for CA to follow. Don't raise it.

This morning both on the radio and TV were advertisements to call your congressman to encourage them to vote for this monstrosity. Put on by the unions who have unlimited money.
The government wastes your money unmercifully, 5 guys standing around with one guy working.
Man I hope this fails, what a waiste, and will cost everyone so much, its going to hurt.
And people on this forum wonder why I hate California so much, I don't hate Calif. I hate our government with a burning passion.

We heard/read stories when a high-ranking government employee goes into retirement at age 60-62, with a pension in the 150-170 K range and gets rehired as a part-timer or consultant to earn another 80-110 K per year, doing the same work he did before retirement.

I'm waiting for the inevitable financial crash which will force all the leeches and piranhas to give up their pensions and live in a world like the rest of us with social security benefits maxed out at $ 2,639 a month - 2016 estimate.

Can the State of California declare bankruptcy and start all over ?

We have state employees earning as much as the president of the country.

As for raising the taxes - I would swallow it with the agreement that all car and gasoline taxes and fees must be spent on road and bridge work only, and that rule must be applied RETROACTIVELY.

yep, about $10 a month that's what I figured it would be. I'm not sure why the outrage over this. My car insurance went up by $15 a month last year and I don't think Jerry Brown had anything to do with that.

12 of my friends are ex Oakland PD and their pensions range from 100 to 180k plus lifetime medical... several went to other agencies like County as they retired in their 50's from Oakland which is a city that has never ending budget woes...
