If CA thinks it can leave the US, can a county leave CA? (Los Angeles: buy, live in)

California is the world's 6th most powerful economy, has critical ports and natural resources, feeds the nation more than half everyone's produce, accounts for the majority of venture capital, has likely the world's deepest inventory of intellectual capital in one state, leads the nation in manufacturing output ...

What county do you have in mind that can bust out on its own with that kind of inertia? Del Norte, perhaps?

You'd be surprised, some people live simpler lives.

They have the natural resources because they live IN nature. They feed themselves, they don't buy the Chinese junk, they have no use for venture capital, and they certainly can do away with the elitists claiming to be more intellectual than others. I don't doubt any county's ability to stand on its own.

All very nice and admirable. Also irrelevant to becoming independent and maintaining such in a world where few follow those lifestyles - and 99% of the world has no respect for them and are completely ready and motivated to steamroller over anyone who does.

So the answer to your OP question remains: no.

California is definitely an amazing state...I can't believe this state was once very sparsely populated in the pre-gold rush era while other states on the east coast had thriving cities and a larger economy,but look how far ahead California has become today with it's thriving cities and the largest economy in the country and one of the largest in the world.

Californians have worked very hard to put this state where it is today and it really is remarkable,and that's why I really hate it when some people ruin this state in one way or another

Both of you are right. California is all what Stanleysowl said. However, there are counties that would not want to secede. San Diego County being one of them (at least for now). Problem is, the parts that do want to go control most of the states economy and GDP. What this means is that for those who choose to remain behind, their new state would be much less rich and they would be more dependent on the federal government for financial support. A government that still has to support the other less financially fortunate states so those counties that stayed behind would not be better off and in fact, may be worse off. If they were to remain with California, they would benefit more from a smaller country that only had them to worry about. Of course they won't realize this until the deal is done.

I believe in addition to San Diego county, I believe Orange County, Riverside county, san Bernadino County, Riverside county except for Coachella valley as they are uber liberal, Kern county, Ventura county, imperial county, I guess even portions of interior of Los Angeles county would want to join with these other counties.

I bet those areas who want independence from California nowadays and become another state would want to break free should California want to secede from the US.

Well, the thing about secessions is that not everyone gets what they want and most of the time, it's winner takes all. There were lots of people in the 13 colonies who were loyalist and did not want to leave the British Empire yet here we are. This has been repeated time and time again throughout the history of secession.
