Just wondering if anyone knows about emissions. I'm buying a 2013 Dodge Charger V6 from Idaho. The car has a sticker under the hood that states "Not for sale in states with California Emissions Standards". I've read that as long as the car has over 7,500 miles, I can have it registered in California providing it passes Smog. Since the car isn't California Emissions Certified, will it have a problem passing Smog? The car is in tip top shape, and only has 46,000 miles.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Joey

If the car is in a good state of tune and had been dealer maintained it should pass no problem. In the eyes of the Ca DMV it is a used car and is legal to bring in and register from out of state. When it is tested it will be tested against the standards for which it was built, i.e. 49 state Federal standards, not California standards.

The emissions test will likely involve simply a scan for OBDII codes since it is less than 5 years old. No codes, no Check Engine Light, you should be good.

My company recently transferred a bunch of people from Washington state to So cal and most of them brought their cars with them. All that I work with had no issue registering their cars in Ca.

Why bother bringing a 2013 with 46k miles from Idaho? I can only see it making sense if its a Super Bee or a V8 AWD R/T that is impossible to find in California. If for some odd reason an out of state vehicle does not pass smog, it is very difficult to get it registered in California.

Huntington Beach Dodge has several V6 2017 Chargers advertised for only $20,300 which is more than $9000 off sticker price. I will take a new one with the full factory warranty over a used one with no warranty.

The Charger is one of my favorite cars but there is no way I would get one without a new factory warranty.

I agree. Rental car fleets are full of V6 Dodge Chargers. There's really nothing special about them. It makes MUCH more sense to buy a car in CA if it's going to be registered here. The OP will find himself jumping through numerous hurdles to get the car to be smog legal to register it in CA.

Maybe there's more to the situation, like maybe he's buying the car at a heavily discounted price from a family member or something. There might be a reason for it to make financial sense.
