Thumbs down California

Only come to California if you can read the following!

Venga a California si usted ama los altos costes, porciones del crimen, tráfico, avaricia, y corrompe el gobierno.

Default Florida

Also a big NO. I lived there for a year. Terrible weather, the air is like soup and thick. Crime is through the roof and there are no good paying jobs. Overall, like living in Cuba.

Signed,
a California resident of 24 years.

California most definitely, simply because of that comment you will have so much fun in CA listening to uneducated low lives trying to put you down.
If you can move here and survive you have made it.
I would love to see some of these Anglophobes make it in England.
Buy houses; get jobs make some sort of mark on society.. No way back on the first plane home, with horror stories of dirty, vile England.
Yes come to California and get to know the real Americans, you will never regret the decision.

Gracie JJ. I can't agree with more with NEW ENGLAND YANKEE. Good to see his reaction. Yours is hardly the US/Anglo relationship both countries have worked hard at. In my time I have helped a number of American's with queries about moving to UK and believe me their Q's have been just as innocent as Wutang's. As for hating foreigners - frankly that's objectionable. What a nonsense when we have willingly taken many more immigrants per sq mile than almost anywhere else in the world and well above US. You obviously don't realise we are a tiny island half the size of most US states with a population density significantly above the US. Add to that the fact that in the last 10 years immigration into UK has exceeded that of the previous 100 years.
Anyway I am sure you'll be please to know I am moving to the US but will not drain you of your resources and am planning to invest in a welcoming local community. So I guess that won't be in your area.

Really, you have been a great help with your information and thank you for that. We've decided on California, now we just have to decide where in California, then there's the whole visa situation...or a sponsor would be even better.

Any help anyone please?

Thanks everyone for the help they've given so far.

Glad you decided on California! yay.
What is a sponsor?

Wise move at least you won’t need Kevlar pyjamas in California.
Remember you can stay for six months with no visa; an awful lot of things can be sorted in six months if you don’t spend all day on the beach or driving up and down Sunset

Any info anyone can give on visa's would be a great help.

We know not all Americans are rude, everybody else has been so kind and helpful, so far. I guess the odd one is found everywhere. no matter where you are.

Thank you again for your help so far.

Adventure here we come!
Hmmm.... you're right that the visa situation is complicated, to the extent that the majority of Brits who hanker after moving to the US almost certainly find they simply can't. Do you have any particular reason to think that you would qualify for a visa?

Sponsorship is a slim chance - you need skills that aren't available locally and then there are only a relatively small number of visas given out each year. This type of visa also means that your spouse cannot work unless they are lucky enough to also find their own, independent sponsorship. Visas for starting a business are now more tricky to get than ever.

The absolute best way of getting over is to find a job in the UK with an employer who also has offices in the US and then get yourself transferred over. Short of marrying an American this is the quickest, easiest way of coming over and also is one of the few routes that can actually lead to the possibility of permanent residency (and, ultimately citizenship if that floats your boat).

Try the USCIS website, and also britishexpats.

Further to what I just said, just gone back and noticed that you're not married - so that you wouldn't even be able to get a derivative visa off her visa (or vice versa).

Out of interest, if for some reason one of you found out that you'd be able to get sponsored, would you be willing to get married quickly?
