We thought we would rent some accomodation first, then buy later on once settled a bit. We have no children and are around our 30's so still like to enjoy life. I'm a professional photographer and would look to continue my work in the US.

I guess a choice of destination would be our first priority, but any help from anyone, especially from anyone already moved from the UK, would be really appreciated.

Thanks
Californy is our favorite place
Florida will burn your fair Brit face.

It's hot and sticky
In the land of the orange

And, oops I am not sure what rhymes with this fruit...

So pack your bags and head for the West
As California is definitely the best.......

whats the issue here USA v British each thinks the other is stupid?? Sounds like a stupid low life conversation to me why cant you all be friends if its a huge posting site theres no need for school playground speak or is this for under 18's to write on. Surely you can judge someone on their behaviour personality and such and not on which country they are from. British hate Americans supposedly and Americans hate British supposedly but you know hating is very ignorant and your just making yourselves look ridiculous.

Oh dear - There seem to be a fair few 'mean', maybe even xenophobic Americans answering here. Just sensing the hostile replies & undertones seems to tell me they don't want any Brits over there at all (!). What's wrong with people?

Yeah, not to be unkind, but am also kinda curious why the OP doesn't appear to have Googled even the most basic info, which would quickly show that these two states are about as far apart geographically as they are culturally and topographically (for example, FL is flat as hell)! Let alone why anyone would ask a bunch of total strangers to ''sell'' them on such a major decision (and it's from a brand new poster to boot...... hmmm?!

Don't worry, those are our conservative friends from Texas who for some reason just can't stop themselves from constantly coming here to troll. It kind of says something about how sad and pathetic their lives are, doesn't it?

The good news is you won't find much, if any, of this in California.

I love California. I don't just like California, I actually love it.

For fine weather, less humidity, variety, mountainous scenery, and many other things the Golden State is unquestionably superior to the Sunshine State.

Having said that, I am one of the minority who would prefer to live in South Florida over Southern California. Why? It's hard to say in words ... but to me CA has a "Mexican vibe" going and FL has more of a "Caribbean vibe." I would much rather live in Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Palm Beach, Sarasota ... than San Diego, Laguna Beach, Long Beach or LA. To me, Florida is greener, more lushly tropical ... palm trees in CA are those scrawny "Washingtonia" palms ... but FL has hundreds of varieties - coconut palms, Royal palms, queen palms, fishtail palms, paurotis palms, livistona palms, raphys excelsa palms, etc.

I prefer the Florida Everglades over the Mojave Desert. I love the Florida Keys.

I admire the Spanish "Hacienda" architecture of Old California, but I like the Mediterranean/Moorish Revival architecture of Old Florida even more.

Please ... don't get me wrong ... I love and admire California.

My personal preference is only based on my own aesthetic idiosyncrasies.

I am in the minority.

More people choose to live in California, don't they?!

I do not admire Florida's backward politics either, so the Golden State is better in that regard as well.
