I know many love to talk about how strong the economy is in CA , but we have the highest level of poverty inflation adjusted .

Article also touches on the fact that a lot of illegals are living in poverty .
--
Overall, California ranked near the top in the nation on children's health but near the bottom for their economic well-being, according to the report, issued by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Despite these gains, more than 1.9 million California children - about 21 percent - live in poverty, and 45 percent live in homes where parents spend nearly a third of their income on housing.

"It's alarming that in the state where we have a strong economy … we rank 46th in kids' economic well-being," said Ted Lempert, president of Children Now, an advocacy and policy organization based in California. "Our families are not benefiting from this strong economy."

In addition to the high cost of housing, the diversity of the population may also contribute to some of the economic challenges facing children, Danielson said. Many immigrant parents, especially those in the country illegally, have lower wages and less job stability.

California’s kids are healthier but many are living in poverty

Yes I agree . Instead like idiots we use taxpayer money to help them with healthcare , food ,etc .

We should need to focus on our citizens but so much money is going to citizens of other countries here illegally.
It shouldn't be our burden it should be the burden of Mexico , El Salvador , Philippines and other countries illegals come from .

California alone spends an estimated $25 Billion on illegals annually .
Now the politicians here want to provide more protections and money to illegals . It's insanity .

Haha how it must pain you to have to add 'inflation adjusted'

Because in reality, CA does NOT even come close to having the highest poverty rate.

$25 billion is a small investment compared to what they contribute to the economy.

Really ? What are your stats on those "contributions to the economy" ?
Majority of illegals ( over 50 percent ) are in poverty .
Those in poverty don't really contribute much to the economy .
I know this is a lie that's been repeated by the mayor of L.A and others but it's just that .
Another liberal lie .

Can you name any illegal aliens that started a tech company or something ?

We have enough poor Americans we don't need to take on the poor from other countries . We can't afford it.

Entire inner city schools qualify for the free lunch programs which means that their parents make squat. One needs to actually make money to pay INCOME taxes to "contribute" to our economy. Unless someone lives in some backwards universe.

I heard someone recently mention how there is a lot of criticism against the rich.
Saying the rich are greedy etc .

But if you look at the rich many of them are contributing a lot . Funding universities , charities etc .
In California the 1%ers pay 48 percent of all the taxes .

Most people even middle class folks just don't make enough money to really give back and contribute .
They are just getting by .

Not saying rich people are "better" this is just a reality and one that many people don't think about .
If you listen to liberal media you would think the rich and high income people are all paying nothing in taxes which just is not true .

my Indian neighbor said to me once: poverty had been with us since time immemorial. it was true then, it's still true today. you don't have to point at the illegals, just look at the Native American reservations, the rural areas, Appalachia, etc and yet these areas received so much funds from the govt

I agree with you. Poverty isn't exclusive to any one ethnicity. It's only narrow minded people who believe this. Your neighbor is right.
