Sir Paul McCartney is one example in Britain. For purposes of this thread, it can be people that are still living or dead.

I'll start with one person we can probably all agree should be on the list: Clint Eastwood! You can list as few or as many as you like.

JER-RY! JER-RY! JER-RY!

You can't deny he's devoted much of his life to public service and the State of California.

I made an exception in my opening thread statement to allow people that have died to be included. The Brits would never approve of that, but I did. Technically you are correct, though. Agree with your earlier post that Jerry Brown should be on this list!

Sticking a sword into a grave is probably bad optics for this newly minted honor. So I'll stick with living people. Robert Redford probably. James Ellroy, Frank Gehry, Brian Wilson, Walter Mosley, Billie Jean King, Ed Ruscha, Ed Moses.

There's a British Order of Merit for those involved in arts and sciences, for which I'd honor plenty of individuals though I think the above have been particularly influential. (BTW English/Californian painter David Hockney is in the Order of Merit, but has not been knighted.)

Fill me in, I'm out of the loop. Are/were all those California residents, or from CA originally?

OP, I assume that in putting this in the CA forum, you intended to honor CA talent?

10 years or more of living in the state will qualify. They do not have to be born in CA and talented people in all fields (government, business, education, entertainment, philanthropy, sports, agriculture, science, etc) can be included.

Gehry and Ruscha were born outside of California, but their professional and creative careers were born and raised in California.
