Yeah. Like 41 residences destroyed, among other things.

I read about the fire at Lake Cachuma...when my sister's children were growing up, this is where they spent a lot of their summers, & I was with them much of the time.

Also, as an adult in San Diego County, I have great memories of fun family/friend times at Lake Jennings.

I'm not in CA anymore, but like Nita, am concerned for my home state.

Just read an LA Times article on how there are now millions of new dead trees in CA from the five year drought.
I think it was 89 million new dead trees in the forests now which is unprecedented and gives great concern for fires this year.

I also grew up in CA, and hope you all stay safe and remember to clear brush near your homes and any dead trees on your property.

How come everyone and their dog always sends prayers for the safety of the firefighters as opposed to....say.....praying that these things don't start in the first place?

The OP was not sending her prayers only to the firefighters.

And how do we keep fires from starting in the first place, by praying that there was never a 5 year drought in California? By praying that there would be state funding for twice the number of firefighters?

The Detwiller fire, which started just before 4 p.m. Sunday, scorched 7,100 acres Monday, two miles east of Lake McClure in Mariposa County, about 40 miles east of Modesto, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The blaze destroyed one structure and damaged another.
