Jeez, I wonder why.

Urban Orlando 650+ sq miles
1.5 million+ people

Urban Fresno. 180 sq miles (?)
700k people

San Francisco (?) !!!! Something crazy

Its easier for the wealthy to isolate themselves from crime In Orlando right now cause of sprawl. Might not be the case after 15 more years of massive growth from the NE, south, and Puerto rico tho.

I like Orlando, but its not this paradise that its being painted. I could go on in, but I think this thread will be dead soon, so I'll save it.

Moving, in and of itself, won't necessarily make you happier. It won't necessarily fix everything that you think is wrong with your life (or the world). It won't make you (or your spouse or kids) a better person.

Moving just puts you in a different location.

And, where ever you go, there you still are.

I can't help wondering, whenever I read these threads, whether moving because you don't like the weather, the politicians, or the people who live nearby, is the solution people think it will be.

Different weather doesn't put food on the table or pay the bills.

Different politicians are still politicians; you'll probably find things you don't like about politicians and politics everywhere you go.

Different people are still people. You might find that having more people just like you is dull (who will you complain about on City Data? ) or you might even discover you don't really like people like you any more than the people who weren't like you in the last place you lived.

Different bugs are still bugs.

Sure, I get that *some* people HAVE to move for financial reasons. And, certainly, seeking out financial security is a worthy goal. But, in and of itself, more money won't make you a better or happier person either. It will just make you a little richer.

Just talking out loud here, but, as I said, perhaps before moving, more people need to look at what can, and cannot, be changed by picking up and schlepping to the other side of the country. Make the decision based on that, not on promises of some perfect place (no place is perfect 100% of the time).

Sometimes, just staying put and changing your attitude about where you already are may be a better fix than moving.

Moving is not always a cure all for what's wrong with your life. As I said, where ever you go, there you still are.
As usual, you are right.
