The Central Coast of California is mostly rural and the towns don't have much ammenties. Houses are NOT cheap. Big Sur has alot of homes in the million dollar range.

So the answer to your question OP, it doesn't matter if you're in a big metro area or in a small isolated town, coastal California is premium land so you better cough up premium money kid.

I'd like to know the answer to your question to. I assuming it's because it's in the far northern end of the state and the infustructure is less developed. That or theres a mountains seperating the town from the coast kinda like how the Santa Monica mountains blocks Thousand Oaks.
