I'm a senior citizen living in a Sun City Adult Comm. in No. Ca. but I hate the heat and am thinking about relocating to Central Ca., Santa Maria or Orcutt since all the other areas are beyond my price range in buying a house. I've seen very negative things about living in Santa Maria from comments back in 2010. I would appreciate have some up to date feedback on that. I'm very active and would like to find like minded senior citizens. Am wanting opinions on living in Orcutt and Santa Maria.
Thanks so much

Is there any health care in Orcutt? How far are you willing to drive to see your doctor? As a senior, those would be my concerns.

I have family in Orcutt. It's quiet and low-key; it feels as though it's populated mostly by families and retirees. Without knowing more specifics I think it certainly merits your consideration, it's a fine place to live (I would certainly consider retiring there). It doesn't get particularly hot there, either, just very windy.

"Old Town Orcutt" (the area west of the 135) appears to be going through something of a revitalization. The last few times I've headed there I've found new, interesting restaurants and wine tasting rooms that weren't there 10 years ago. As far as meeting other active seniors, I can't help you there specifically...

Note that if you are in need of regular health care beyond routine doctor's visits, you will likely need to drive into Santa Maria. That's a roughly 10-mile drive (not sure about public transportation's ability to get you to where you need to go).

I'm not sure what exactly you've read about Santa Maria proper, but like virtually every city it has its good areas and its bad areas; IMO it's mostly good, I'd venture to say you won't encounter trouble unless you look for it. When I visit family and go grocery shopping or go to the movies or whatever else, I've never come remotely close to feeling unsafe.

HTH; good luck!

Hi there neighbor! You must be in Roseville or Lincoln? My sis lives there. We grew up in Sac, but I live in Woodland now.

My ex in-laws live in Santa Maria and I love it there! I'm planning on getting out of this horrid heat and leaving precious family 6 hours behind.I'll have a nice guest room.

My in-laws lived on the border of Santa Maria and Orcutt and enjoyed their time there. In general it seems to be a good area.

" just very windy" That's my question, How windy is it? :-) i.e., can you enjoy the outdoors in spite of it or is it windy all the time, ?
Thanks!
