Does your job involve working outside? That's a definite factor to consider when talking about working in a place where the temperatures top 100 degrees for several months a year. It's not just the heat, it's also the relentless sun.

While you may be able to find an apartment for $850 a month, you'll probably pay another $250+ a month for AC several months out of the year. So make sure to factor that extra cost into your budget.

On the plus side, I personally love spending time out in the desert -- there are some amazing outdoor places to explore within a short drive from downtown Palm Springs. And, you can take weekend trips to LA if you want a taste of big city life every now and then.

Since it sounds like you work for an airline, why not hop a plane and visit to see if it's for you?
Im considering multiple cities in California, each connected with my airline but so far apart that id be spending a ton to get from city to city without my car. So I'm asking about certain ones before hand cause my jobs flight benefits are weird and I can't just 'hop on a plane and visit'. So i wantto know if it's worth the visit in the fist place, as I found San Francisco isn't due to cost of rent and what my job pays. Same with Bakersfield and an apparent lack of work for me there.

On a side note, people really need to understand flight benefits don't mean they cover bills while youre gone... That's a vacation practically and its unpaid.
