You mean, once Walnut Creek got paved over? Under Mexico, and for a while after, it actually used to have walnut groves. I think the area around the Nut Tree restaurant was one walnut-growing area. Now the suburbs are spreading out there.

This article has a map of the main walnut growing areas in CA (central valley, of course. I read Lake County has some groves).

Most walnuts are now produced in the San Joaquin and Sacramento Valleys, with more than half of the acreage being located in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tulare, Butte, and Sutter Counties (Figure 3). California growers produce 99 percent of the commercial U.S. supply.

I live in Butte country & there are thousands of acres of nut orchards around here, both almonds & walnuts.

SOMEONE in Butte County makes the most delicious candied walnuts. Incredible! Someone gave me a sample pack and unfortunately I can't remember the name.

Mostly in Butte and Glenn counties. It's gorgeous driving through the orchards. I love it.

Candied walnuts are dead easy to make. I'm no cook and even I can do it.

Op, why do you want to know, did you want to see some orchards in bloom, next Spring, or just buy some walnuts?
