It is not all doom and gloom...

So I gather many here do not take the standard deduction (which will now double)? In many cases for upper middle class/middle class folks your tax liability will decrease from 28% to 25%.

And if you are looking to buy a home soon I actually think the tax plan will slow the market a bit to make it possible.

Still trolling us with your wishful thinking about disaster economics such that you can buy a property in one of the most expensive markets in the nation?

Too predictable.

But I knew that success (as measured by those things as a metric of achievement) wasn't going to happen overnight or even quickly but that is only because I was taught and raised that you have to work hard and endure hardships to get a reward.

But I didn't wish those people ill just because they had what I didn't.

One of my mother's favorite aphorisms was that "Nothing worth having comes easy" and my father's was 'Life isn't fair." They were Depression kids. They knew from real life experience how much harder and bleaker Life could be than mine was and they wanted me to understand gratitude. So they always tried to set an example of being thankful for what we had, even if it wasn't "perfect" or what someone else had. And that the most important things weren't things you could just go out and purchase - that health and happiness and contentment don't come from material things but rather stem from character and experiences and relationships with others and achievements in which you can be proud.

They always took the time to show me how that applied to anything in Life, whether it was an education, expertise with a musical instrument, a relationship, a career, something I wanted to own, or financial security. I'd have to say these lessons were the most valuable gift my parents ever gave me.

I think the "entitlement attitude" of so many people, and a profound lack of gratitude and thankfulness today is perhaps the biggest problem facing American society right now. It is what is being leveraged to create all this unrest and incivility and hostility.
