Propose California propositions 914 single payer medical system

Maine voters just resoundingly approved a Medicaid expansion. Their governor is trying to stop it from going into effect.

I believe CA voters will vote yes for single payer medical system and we can increase top 1% tax payers's(person and corporate) tax to cover it.

You really believe this would cover the $400 billion per year estimated cost? I'm not opposed to universal healthcare but people need to be realistic about the cost and how it will be paid for. Count on a hefty payroll tax to be shared by the employee and employer. By that I mean 9 to 10% each, is what you will pay, that is if you are employed.
With your plan, the rich will abandon the state as well as corporations, so just expect to pay directly from the beginning. Sounds real attractive now, doesn't it?
This should be implemented nationwide to better share the risk and cost.

I have spoke to quite a few CA companies I do business with, last week in CA, and all say they are planning on moving out of CA because of costs and the business climate.

It sounds good to have the companies pay, but their money comes from people who end up paying higher prices for the products. The companies do not pay from their own pocket or profit. The payment is from everyone like it or not. Add in the employee "contribution" and all workers will have less money and ... the cost will be no different than it is now.

Universal healthcare is a Good idea for sure. The reality is that it will cost a LOT and the Gov't will try to say "Oh we have a way" and then the way takes as much money out of the pockets of workers as health insurance does now and probably more.

It won't cover it and more "Rich" will leave the State and just keep a vacation home in CA and their residence will be a State with no income tax. The rich are not stupid or they would not be rich. Corporations will just raise the cost of the services or goods and YOU will pay for it in the end.

Good. More rich people should leave the state so housing goes down. I’m definitely voting for this.

A bill was introduced by the state senate earlier this year (SB 562 - The Healthy California Act), sent to the Assembly, then shelved. It was apparently poorly written.

There are several candidates running for state governor who would like a single payer system. Paying for it is obviously a huge issue.

Posted on another thread about this topic: “Single-payer” and “universal coverage” are often used interchangeably, but that wrong. It’s possible to have the latter without the former — indeed, every major country with universal coverage has multiple payers to some extent, though payments to doctors and hospitals for services typically are much more centrally regulated than in the U.S.

I think you are making to good points. If you have health insurance as part of your total compensation package through your employer, would the cost of single payer exceed that cost ?
I have had health insurance since the mid 70s, through 2 different employers. The the insurance in both cases was part of my total compensation package.

Vermont had this and terminated it due to the high cost. I read somewhere that the California bill was shelved because it was too expensive.

Maine expanded Medicaid, they didn’t set up a single payer system.

I'm retired now but my health insurance costs were nowhere near what it cost under current estimates for universal healthcare. I paid little to nothing for health insurance with my past employers and I wasn't even in a union. Of course that was pre Obamacare.
In my case, yes, the cost of Universal Healthcare care taxation would be far more than what I ever paid.

So hateful and I doubt you would ever be able to afford a house owned by someone of wealth. Also, as another poster stated, the wealthy can simply establish residency in another state and keep their mansion as a vacation home.
Win the lottery or find a better paying career if you actually work.
