Bill Text - AB-1278 Health facilities: smoking.

(b) Except as provided in subdivision (c), on and after March 1, 2013, smoking shall be prohibited in all areas of a general acute care hospital and throughout the entire hospital campus, including, but not limited to, buildings, parking areas, plazas, vehicles, underground passages, and sidewalks, unless there is a government-mandated exception. Public thoroughfares and sidewalks adjacent to the general acute care hospital but not owned by the hospital are not subject to this section.
(c) (1) This section shall not prevent smoking on a hospital campus by a patient if the treating physician determines that the patient’s treatment will be substantially impaired by the denial to the patient of the use of tobacco and the physician enters a written order permitting the use of tobacco by that patient.

I included section C, although at our hospital we do not allow smoking either way. Very few hospitals in California will allow smoking. We are a place to make people healthy and smoking is not conductive to good health.
Look on any sidewalk by a hospital or in a parking lot by a hospital and you will see a lot of doctors, nurses, orderlies, and other hospital workers smoking.

I do believe it was 2013 but does that include all workers? I don't know what job they held just had blue scrubs on.

It's been legal. Nonetheless, a State cannot own a plant or the manner in which it is used anyhow.
The plant belongs to GOD. He gave it to us as a gift

Be careful. Slander and all of that.

Most people have smoked pot at least once but do not smoke pot anymore

I doubt that a CA court would consider that slander. Just like labelling someone as gay is no longer considered defamatory in CA. Now, in certain states, it's probably worse to say someone smokes weed than to say they were banging underage girls....

Oh great point! So many people overlook the other addictive garbage they put into their bodies when trying to talk down to people who use marijuana. Processed meat, fast food, sugar, etc. These same people are also often the ones that thing marijuana can only be consumed via smoking.

Spot on. It's amazing the hard-core drugs they put in their system while desciminating against healthier drugs

We bought a carton of dryers frozen ice cream or yogurt once. I forgot which. It contained Formaldehyde

Slander? Sweet Jesus, it's common knowledge and all over the internet and media for years ... and no, "most people" have not smoked pot ... latest surveys put it at 52% ... a far cry from "most". But that said, kinda meaningless to try and draw any conclusions about value or danger from a stat like that ... because the reason so many have not smoked weed is cultural convention. Until almost exactly a century ago, it was legal ... legal for 10,000 years, since we humans began forming societies just emerging from the paleolithic era.

First prohibition law against marijuana was ... interestingly ... 1913 California ... in response to fear of ... wait for it ... Mexican immigration.

Read all about it: Why the U.S. Made Marijuana Illegal - History in the Headlines

Didn't have a damn thing to do with studies, science, health, medicine ... nada ... just social politics and prejudice.

Quote:
Despite its medical usefulness, many Americans’ attitudes towards cannabis shifted at the turn of the century. This was at least partly motivated by Mexican immigration to the U.S. around the time of the 1910 Mexican Revolution, according to Eric Schlosser, author of Reefer Madness: Sex, Drugs, and Cheap Labor in the American Black Market.

“The prejudices and fears that greeted these peasant immigrants also extended to their traditional means of intoxication: smoking marijuana,” Schlosser wrote for The Atlantic in 1994. “Police officers in Texas claimed that marijuana incited violent crimes, aroused a ‘lust for blood,’ and gave its users ‘superhuman strength.’ Rumors spread that Mexicans were distributing this ‘killer weed’ to unsuspecting American schoolchildren.”

It grows naturally whether a cultural convention or not.

If one doesn't view recreational drugs as ok, then they need to stop doing worse recreational drugs themselves first don't you think??? at least before preaching against it. JMHO. Not withstanding....I am off to do a recreational drug myself. Coffee beckons my call
