it sounds like you people are unaware that the Democrats ramrodded through a law without consulting the people or allowing us to vote on it recently. Raising the Calif. gas tax 12 cents for each and every gallon for the rest of our lives and it's tied to inflation so it will continue to go up.
And car registration went up $25 to $175 depending on your cars value.
There is a initiative to repeal both of these increases and any future increases we will have to vote on it. It has enough signatures to get on the ballot but the Democrats are fighting it tooth and nail

Since the state needs voter approval to raise income taxes they find some other angle to rob us. Grey Davis was recalled in part because of wanting to increase reg fees. What makes moonbeam exempt from recalling his behind!!

2010 Kia Soul went up by $ 32 (to $142 a year)
There is a petition going on now to recall the increase and also to recall the gas tax increase, but I doubt it can pass.

California, the state, the counties and the cities are all hurting big time to cover the increasing cost of public employees pensions. If you think there won't be more tax increases you must be dreaming.

There are retired people here getting over 100 K a year, and some able to retire at 55 years of age. I worked until 68 without missing a single day from work (not including three surgeries and vacations) and I don't receive a fourth of that amount from soc. sec.
We need a governor willing to take the state into bankruptcy and renegotiate all public pensions with Calpers.
The other way might be to pass a proposition to limit public employee pension to 150% or similar to the amount they could get under social security like the rest of us.

How does someone who's making 40-60k survive in CA? Seems like this income range is just completely priced out of living there.

Depends if this a total family income or individual... two people at 50k would be 100k

Not all of CA is expensive... but some areas are very expensive.

Craigslist for roommates is huge... seems it is just a part of life in SF/Bay Area for singles.

I rent a 4 bedroom, 2 bath home to 5 under 30... on couple shares the master and the others have a room... their housing cost including utilities is $500 per month.

Increasing income taxes will be harder to pass than ever before. With the Trump Tax Reform passed you can no longer itemize your state income and sales tax on Federal tax return. Good luck to any state politician’s career in California that proposes a income tax increase.
