Default Whew a life ago!

The San Fernando Valley... where I remember frying eggs on the blacktop in the worst of summer...
My mom was kind of psychotic and a gypsy, and after my dad died when I was 8, we moved all the time within about a 10 mile radius, sometimes across the street, sometimes in the same building... It was like a weird obsession with her.
North Hollywood, Van Nuys, Studio City, Sherman Oaks mostly in multiple apartments, converted garages, rooms for rent etc. We were poor, and it was an interesting childhood, but we got by. Now every so often we're in the area and while driving through, the running joke is me pointing to street after street and saying, "I lived there", "and there", "lived there twice", ha h, me ol' stomping grounds!

Born in San Francisco at Mt. Zion hospital long before it was part of the UCSF system - just by chance, I now work for UCSF at Mt. Zion.

Did my first 21 years in SF, then moved to South San Francisco (yes it is a different city in a different county), then to Fremont where I have been since.

Now ready to get out of the Bay Area and head north, either very Northern California or Southern Oregon on the coast.

I wasn't actually born in California (born in Silver Spring, MD), but we came here when I was only 6; so I consider myself an "almost-native!" I grew up in the city of San Mateo, which is about 20 miles south of San Francisco. As for interesting facts, it used to be home to Bay Meadows Racetrack, which was the longest-operating thoroughbred racetrack in California - built in 1934, and closed in 2008. I'm sure there are more facts to share, but that's one that came to mind!

Me too! I wasn't actually born in California, but we came here when I was only 4; so I consider myself an "almost-native!"

We first lived on the Army Base, Fort Ord, Monterey Bay. Then we moved off base to Seaside, CA which is small town that sits between Monterey(the town) and Fort Ord.

Fort Ord is no longer an Army Base; it is now a college - California State University, Monterey Bay.

Modesto. 1956. Modesto was a small city surrounded by the farming community. Safe, pure drinking water, kids played in the streets and down by Dry Creek. There was actually fish and crawdads in the creek. Never worried about crime.

Born in Santa Monica, CA - we moved to Torrance in 1955 when I was 2 yrs old. Brand new home, paid 14,000.00 for it according to my parents. Sold a couple of years ago for 750,000.00. Unbelievable huh?

No crime when I was growing up - kids had and used their imaginations. We were always doing something. Great times.

Small world, I was born at the same hospital in SF on Geary Blvd. I lived most of my younger life in the Bay Area until late 90s with some breaks while living in NYC, Europe and South America. Lived in Orange County from 2000 until November 2017.

Born in Burlingame, 1957. Don't know the name of the hospital there. We lived in San Mateo County and Sacramento until I was age 5 when my father who worked on military bases as an electrical engineer got transferred to a naval base in Ventura County. We settled in Thousand Oaks where I grew up before attending college in San Jose.
