I’v never been to CI, however based off google images, it seems it’s the closest we have in the United States so some Greek/Italian-like island beach town. What is the current population and what type of jobs do they have? Are there any hospitals and work for doctors?

Or is it mainly tourist industry related people living on the island? Last question, would they have to pay full fare to go back and worth between the mainland or they pay a yearly fee?

I don't know much about life on Catalina, but some facts make it pretty clear that tourism is about the only thing local residents are involved with. 4000 pop, and million of visitors annually! You may get pretty bored living there full time, with so little variety or things to do, and they don't allow personal cars. But I do believe they have a small hospital, maybe even a basic ER, so a Dr. may have some possibilities there, if you can take the isolation

Catalina Island is definitely worth a visit. It's a great day or weekend trip. I would think living there would get a bit isolated but these give an idea of what it's like to actually reside there:

And they have had issues with fresh water supply over the years. Not an issue for tourists but something to consider for potential residents:

I think this is one of those things that sounds more glamorous than it actually is.

Great place to visit though!

I've taken a couple of day trips there and I find it to be too much of a tourist trap! Great place to walk around and have lunch on the water. But I would be bored to death if I lived there. Nothing else to do.

Tip: If you get at all seasick, beware. The sea is always rough in the channel between the island and the mainland.

I think it's more like 22, but 26 if you're boat pilot is drunk or stoned.
