Haters have their thread(s) ... this one’s for lovers

(Yeah, I know the haters will crash the topic ... shame on them when they already have so many parties of their own to revel in ...)

Anyway, I’m having a blast in California still after all these years!

Why don't they? Because it's home? That counts for a lot, with a lot of people. And where else has redwoods? I mean giant redwoods? Sure, you could move to the Himalayan foothills, in Yunnan Province, to be around Dawn Redwoods, but there are QOL issues there... Also, Yunnan Province doesn't have miles upon miles, endless miles of beautiful coastline, sun, and crashing surf.

I rest my case.

The consumer protections, the eccentric politics, the forward-thinking 21st Century innovations.

Comfortable weather, outdoor rec, reasonable home prices. Of course, I'm talking NORTHERN California.

Why DON’T people hate California?

'Cause life is very good here, not perfect, but very good.

That's a biggie. There aren't many states at all, where you can do outdoor recreation year 'round. Or heck, even take a walk or a bike ride in comfortable weather. I enjoy walking to the store. I can't do that in states, where it's too hot in the summer, or a slushy or icy mess in winter.

where do you live?

Overall California is horrid. There are small slices of heaven within it though

Was in the Bay Area since starting in the later 60’s: San Francisco (Haight-Ashbury, Marina District, Presidio), Sausalito, Treasure Island, Alameda, Isleton and Delta, Lemoore, San Diego, Morro Bay. I don’t share your opinion a bit ... although I readily acknowledge the development and overcrowding has driven me from lurking in specific urban areas anymore.

I live on a small boat.

Incredible all-around diversity -- geography, climate, culture, cost of living, even politics -- there is something for everyone in California.

Consumer protections are also strong here, and I like the state's progressive environmental policies.
