A good friend of mine died five years ago who lived outside of Willits. I visited his widow and we went to a gathering of my old circle of friends there. It was a time warp. Nothing had changed in 30 years. To make a long story short, they were still living the hippy, dope smoking lifestyle that I left decades ago. I left before dinner shaking my head. I feared food poisoning. You can DM me for details if interested. I don’t want to gross out our gentile readers.

Almost everyone I know over the age of 50 has plans that include moving out of CA, including me. The truth is we are either sitting on goldmines via home equity and want to cash out or just can't deal with the costs and commutes and are looking for something easier once the kids are out of school. Some people even have condos/2nd homes elsewhere already that they plan to retire to. Some are from elsewhere and plan to go back to family and friends once careers are over. We all know plans change and even I accept I may live in my house for the rest of my life but so much depends on how things go over the next 10-15 years.

Is Mendocino part of the North Coast, though? Or is it the intermediate coast? I think of the North Coast as mainly Humboldt and Del Norte. South Mendocino is almost the Bay Area. Almost. Lake County used to be the north end of Bay Area counties.

I don't know if it's bay area, but calling it intermediate is probably the best description. It's quite a drive to get there from the bay area. Small winding roads.

Mendocino is definitely North Coast and Lake County has never been considered part of the Bay Area.

I would say definitely north coast. The county residents consider it so and the culture is much like Humbolt. A different world from Sonoma and south.

What they are really saying is that more people are moving out of California then before, but more people are moving in. The census releases estimates every year, and there hasn't been a year where the population did not grow by at least 200k.
