Yep... we still have a get it done attitude.

In 27 years I have never taken a sick day... so it goes both ways.

One thing I can't stand is bad information given out under color of authority...

I will post what I learn about Jury Duty and Flying for those not holding a Real ID...

PS... this is the first time they destroyed my old license... punched a hole in it... ;-(

Now that's weird. I have my old license right here, no holes punched. Guess I'll keep it so I can see what I looked like in what will become the good old days.

Interesting. On the DMV website, it states that one will not need a REAL ID to do any of the following:

Apply for or receive federal benefits (Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration, etc.)
Enter a post office or other federal facility that does not require identification.

The DMV flyer states Passport, Military ID or Real ID to board a plane or access some Federal Facilities...

I guess the woman directing the que did not read it?

Two people ahead of me decided to go home and try again deciding they needed Real ID after hearing her.

I visited the Coliseum DMV office in Oakland CA...

What do you do for minors???

My neice was selected as an outstanding 10 year old swimmer and was invited to compete in Seattle with others from all around the country... he parents did not go... the delegation consisted of two coaches, two chaperones and 12 kids...

So does a 12 year old require Real ID to fly from Oakland to Sea Tach and if so does this mean childrent need to appear at the DMV for thumb print and photo?

I'm wondering just how well thought out this is and I'm certain problems will arise with things like minors traveling by air domestically...

According to the Homeland Security website, you don't need a real id to do the following:

  • Entering Federal facilities that do not require a person to present identification
  • Voting or registering to vote
  • Applying for or receiving Federal benefits
  • Being licensed by a state to drive
  • Accessing Health or life preserving services (including hospitals and health clinics), law enforcement, or constitutionally protected activities (including a defendant's access to court proceedings)
  • Participating in law enforcement proceedings or investigations
So yes, you will have to do your jury duty, but you don't need it to register to vote.

So why the big push and sending people away???

She could have simply said if you have a passport or military ID you are good to go and no need for Real ID...

I paid my registration renewal online on Aug 27, I printed out the receipt. This is for Sept 2019 tags, which I still have not received. I called the DMV, and was on hold for 40 minutes. When I was able to finally get an agent, he said my tags were in the mail. That was about 1 week ago. I have an office appointment with the DMV (which I scheduled 5 days after no new sticker in the mail before I called the DMV) to resolve this issue next Monday, and I will be going if I do not receive my new 2019 tags by then.
In the meantime, I am driving the vehicle with the DMV receipt stating that I paid for the 2019 tags and registration.
This is the first time that I have not received my new stickers and I have a locking mailbox and have lived in the same house for the past 14 years.
UPDATE:

I still have not received my sticker for my online DMV registration in my locking mailbox.
Monday I go in person, unless the DMV sticker lands in my locking mail box tomorrow.
Luckily I have an appointment at SYI which is pretty fast. I am really curious of how the DMV is going to handle this issue.

Unless the rules have changed, you can get a no-fee replacement sticker if you haven't received your sticker 30 days after issuance.

Saw on the news tonight that the governor is calling for an audit of the DMV. Maybe he had trouble with his registration or renewing his DL too. I hope they figure this mess out soon. But it's nice to know that, in some instances, you don't necessarily need a CA ID.
