What happened was the Teacher's Union and Brown giving them too much control. I graduated High School in '77 and agree that the CA school system was significantly better back then. To get to 47th worst in the state and currently at 44 (k-12) based on your link (which is accurate) is atrocious. With that said, I'll leave it at that as this isn't the topic and we're not supposed to hijack threads. It's nice to see someone else that understands what's going on here.

35th... lol

That's not exactly something to brag about considering we are the 6th highest taxed state in the country.

It's more complex than that. California school funding has dropped from 5.6% of personal income in the 60's to 3.5% There are a lot of English language learners and a lot of poor kids, both of which pull down test scores. In the NAEP test (called the Nation's report card) California tests all kids, Texas excludes English language learners. In 2015-2016 California ranked 41st in school spending adjusted for cost of living

As much as you love to make every argument binary i.e "Democrats vs us" doesn't mean that it's valid. That kind of rant reminds me of my 90 year old Trump supporting neighbor who stands on his lawn and shakes his fist at the feral cats who mess up his garden and claims that democrats are to blame because only bleeding heart liberals would feed those damn cats. It's actually another Trump supporter who feeds the cats.

Did I brag about it? By the way it appears that California has the 10th highest tax burden. And California spends less on education than most other states, in 2015-2016 California was ranked 41st in school spending

Not really. Multiple reasons for the decline in public education in California are discussed on this thread: //www.city-data.com/forum/calif...s-so-poor.html

Back to Prop 6.

Because the higher education, not because of K-12.

The campaign to pass Proposition 6, which would repeal last year’s gas tax increase, has been filled with gross exaggerations and misleading claims.

One of the worst is the assertion that the state is maliciously misspending fuel tax and vehicle fee revenue on — gasp! — public transit.

A memo to Prop. 6 backers: It's totally legal to spend gas taxes on public transit. It's also smart

Yep, but you can only repeat it so many times.

I'm voting no on 6, and am not complaining about the high cost of housing sounds like a doomsday scenario that tries to draw parallels between totally different things. I would much rather just pay the 12 cents that we are already freaking paying to fix the roads. If one does not like it vote yes, and elect someone that supports their views.

It's not about the agenda it's about wanting something done to the problem above all else. Imagine if we could get an infrastructure plan nationwide.
