Hi,
I'm taking a job in Petaluma, CA and I have no idea about the area. I'm looking for an area that isn't so expensive ..
Can you please give me some ideas of good areas to look in for a 1 bedroom house or apt in the price range of $1000-1200 a month??

I'd really appreciate any help that I can get :-)

The north bay is a very expensive area and with the recent fires up there that have displaced so many, cheap housing in that area is going to be pretty hard to find.

I would try Santa Rosa, reasonable commute if you can find a decent spot.

Look on Craigslist for apartments, and also for shared houses or apartments (under the "shares" category). There will be a lot of competition for rental housing, so you should be flexible. Once you're established there, you'll be in a better position to look around for a better place, if you end up sharing with others.
