The line of their family that's lived in California? I doubt they were implying anything more than that.

I was born in Maryland, but my family came here when I was 6 years old... so pretty close! Feels like I'm a native, since I barely remember our life in MD at this point. Just little snippets here and there.

Yes. Fifth generation SF Bay Area native. Great-great-great grandparents came to San Francisco from one of the states that make up the New England region of our country, and they came before the Gold Rush. Their son, my great-great grandfather, was born in San Francisco, and all three were among the first 1,000 residents of San Francisco. I was born in the Bay Area. Both of my parents were born in the Bay Area. Three of my four grandparents were born in the Bay Area, and the other was born in Arizona when it was still a territory and moved to the Bay Area at the age of two. I don't know for certain re my father's side, but on my mother's side, three of my four great-grandparents were born in the Bay Area (all before 1875), and the other was born in NYC and came to the Bay Area at age two.

2nd generation SF native. My Grandparents on my mothers side came here from Uruguay and Hawaii (but originally from Spain) and met and married in San Francisco. The other side both grandparents also came here from Hawaii (and were originally from Spain) and also met and married in San Francisco. My mother was born in SF, my dad was born in Marysville (CA). His parents lived and worked in SF but worked the fields in the central valley on weekends, where he was born.

I am a native Californian. I was born and raised in the SF Bay Area to parents who were born in the Midwest and came to the SF Bay Area when they were young.

Yes. I'm a native of California. Born in Oakland. Stayed there until my parents moved us to San Leandro and then later to the valley when my dad began working for Lawrence Livermore Lab. I'd have liked to stay in San Leandro. I liked it there but considering they were paying the bills and I was only nine, I didn't have a say in it. Been here in the valley for over 60 years and it's grown on me. Think I'll stay a bit longer.

I'm a 4th generation Californian, which makes my kids 5th generation. We moved to Idaho just before the pandemic. I don't dislike CA, but we like it here better.

I was born in San Francisco, and lived in the Bay Area for 41 years. While I have relatives buried there in Hayward and Lafayette, I also now have several buried here in Washington State, where about half the extended family have moved.

My grandparents all moved to CA from the midwest before they had children, so my parents were the first in my lineage to be born in the state, Orange County to be exact. My siblings and I were also born in Orange County and all of our children were also born in and still live in the state. My family has since moved up to the Bay Area, though my siblings and their families still live in SoCal. Our parents, now divorced, have both recently moved out of state. With my job, I could easily relocate to places like Texas or North Carolina, but I love it here and I'm not interested in started over again with school aged children.
