About six weeks before the mid-term elections, Hwy 101 along the Bay Area was shut down with massive delays due to "road work" and we were forced to drive through SF and all the other routes were horribly congested. There were yellow vested road workers all over the place! We did get a small stretch of highway (50) repaved, and even Apple Hill was covered by men at work on the roads EVERYWHERE. I covered a lot of territory due to visitors and taking them to all the sights here in NorCal. But the day after the Gas Tax Repeal was voted down, I haven't seen a road worker since!

I was shocked that our voters would allow that tax to continue ---which nearly doubled the car registration fees. Not only was it written into law without our voices, it is insane how much money they were already collecting. Where is that money going? To the roads? I have yet to see any evidence of that before this proposition took center stage.

I have a long commute, so I see a lot of roads. I was expecting the tax to be repealed. I also believe the show of road workers was just that, for show. I mean what happened to all the road workers since the election?

did anyone else notice the same?

Okay people, let me have it! I'm ready. lol.

Liberals never met a tax they didn't love, whether it was useful or not. In California, taxes and accomplishing what the taxes were meant for have little in common.

You haven't seen those nice freeway sings painted in the lanes? Those were there since the freeways were first built but immediately wore out. Now they have money to maintain them. Worth it right?

California has some of the worst roads in the country, yet some of the highest fees and taxes. It's not a money issue, it's a greedy or careless politician issue.

What a weird thread.

In my part of CA we’ve basically had HWY 108, 49 and 120 repaved. My guess is the anti tax OP is just making stuff up. I see plenty of Caltrans actively

The logic of I want services, but I don’t want to pay for them baffles me

If you want to see bad roads just go to AZ or NV. Have you ever been to a Rest Area in Nevada? Try it out and let us know how you like the portapoties.

California is comparable to states that don't go through severe weather. I'll tell you when I drive from California to Florida, California had some of the worst roads. When I lived in San Francisco I remember SFGATE even had an article showing the road conditions are so poor that it costs the average drive $300-400 more per year in road related car expenses compared to the national average. Maybe this sense of denial is why politicians get away with it in California. Expense gas, high taxes, high fees and below average roads.

I saw a half dozen Cal Trans workers standing around not working. This is what the gas and car tax money goes for.
