Irrelevant. What matters is Jerry Brown and our Democratic State Legislators could have, and should have, contributed to CalPERS to cover already earned benefits. They didn't.
Don't try to reason with trolls. You won't get anywhere.

Well, you won’t get anywhere with anybody intelligent if your argument is full of holes.

How about you, david? Got a position to debate that holds water? Your bucket full of holes?

Sounds like a personal problem, I can afford to buy a home in California so maybe you should examine your own finances and see what went wrong that you aren't able to.

Interesting point. The legislature under AH-nold didn't contribute, either. But Jerr is the one who created a surplus. Are you saying some of that should have been directed to CalPERS?

The basic fact it people who earn half of what public employees earn are paying for their lavish retirement and we don't like it at all.

What does that look like? Are you suggesting that the state cover underpayments by municipalities? How would the people in one county that has a very low unfunded accrued liability feel about the state paying off the UAL of another county? https://www.calpers.ca.gov/docs/publ...tributions.pdf

Much of this problem is the result of cities and counties promising more than they could ever afford, i.e. kicking the can down the road. You have no idea how frequently agencies would offer to pay more of an employees pension or health insurance cost in lieu of a pay raise, they did that without the intent of ever funding either the pension or health insurance obligations.

I keep telling you that even you can get a big fat pension! Caltrans is hiring and there is no age limit, go for it!

There are 548 agencies that participate in CalPERS, it is the responsibility of each of those to adequately fund their employees pension costs, the state does not pay for or contribute to the pension of any of those agencies. It's interesting only if you think that the State pays for the pension of every city and county public employee in California

We can only hope that Newsom will bring some of Brown's wisdom to the job.

The point — in a way that only Brown would make it — is that things work until they don’t. The more you know, the better you’re prepared. Or as he routinely tells audiences in a self-deprecating nod to his age as the state’s oldest governor, “There is no substitute for experience.

“In an experienced mind, there’s a knowledge, a depth,” Brown said. “A clarity, a wisdom that is profoundly important. But there also can be rigidity, and a lack of imagination as people do the same thing over and over again for decades.”

Brown’s critics may not like his decisions, but few would describe him as rigid. Equal parts politician and perpetual-motion machine, the 80-year-old Democrat leads by the Socratic method — rigorously questioning the conclusions in policy briefs, the precedent set by decades of state laws and the precise wording of questions posed by journalists. Brown pounces, bursting with additional points while others try to move to a new topic.
