The laws in this state give me a good giggle, sometimes. For instance, you must wear a helmet if you ride a bicycle but it's okay (as of 2019) to ride an electric scooter without one. Those are the scooters that can reach speeds up to 25mph. Now tell me, where's the logic in that? Bicycle with peddles = helmet. Electric scooter = no helmet.

Only in California

I just got done listening to Bakerxderek's rant on it. I wish they had that here in Washingtax! I've been trying for years to get that on the books even if just as a local ordinance. It does set a precedent.

Loud pipes cost lives, especially if you're old white trash on a POS Harley or a chav with a riceburner and your parent's trust fund fartcanning through a neighborhood with lots of firearms permits!

I totally agree...People need to realize that when you violate the law it's gonna cost you $$$.

Special reminder: California's new traffic fine rules were released on January 1, 2019:

Forgot to carry your driver's license for $214. Forgot to change the address (more than ten days) $214. Uninsured car in accident for $796 ‘and’ driver's license revoked for 4 years. Did not stop at red light or turning right at No Turn on Red $533. Crossing double yellow line for $425. Violation of the turn or U-turn $284. Speeding 1-15 miles $224 16-25 miles $338, usually the police determined that speeding is over 5 miles. On rainy day it is not allowed to exceed 65 miles.

Stop sign but did not stop $284. Pass the flashing light of school bus $675. Talking on cell phone first time $76, second time $190, same penalty even if you are just holding the cell phone in your hand! Stop at a bus stop $976. Not wearing a seat belt $160. Driving with high beam light (from 30 points) for $382. Child did not wear a seat belt or not in a child seat $436. Covering car door $178. Driving with headphones on $178. Modified Exhaust $1000 each stop.
Probably 90% of the drivers on California roads will regularly speed 1 mph or more over the limit on a regular basis. If the governor really was desperate for money, he doesn't need to increase the fines on all of the other violations - just simply have the police pull people over with much lower tolerance. If he's really desperate, then have all of the police pull EVERYONE who is speeding over, left and right, even by 1 mph, like shooting fish in a crowded barrel. This is guaranteed to generate a goldmine. Why it's not being done, I'm baffled.

There would have to be as many cops as drivers in order to pull everyone over who speeds. If your going less than 80 in the left lane your the problem and danger all over when you get away from downtown LA.

Ok, so I guess that explains why your probability of being pulled over rises drastically once you exceed 15mph over the speed limit.. you fall into a new tier of fines and the fine is still the same for 1-15 over.

The new law says you can't tint the driver and passenger windows to the point where you can't see the driver.

I think the old laws mostly were about the windshield.
It has been the law for decades that there can be NO tint on any windows forward of the "B" pillar. That includes the front driver's and passenger's side windows and the windshield. The only exceptions are a 4-inch stripe across the top of the windshield that serves as a sun-shield, a small corner (I think is it 5x7) in the lower left corner of the front windshield (for toll road transponders, inspection stickers, parking permits, etc.), and a smaller corner in the lower-right front corner of the windshield for new registration stickers, etc. It has been a few years, so forgive me as I am relying on memory but I believe the section is CVC 26708(a)(2).
