This site looks legitimate but I’ve never heard of it. They say $5.4 billion. And that was a year ago.

many opposition of the HSR are right in the heart of where its being built. Throw it up for old school conservative nature of the central valley (at least from people there who have power and a voice). They dont realize that linking fresno to SJ in an hour would do so much wonders for their city. Mainly accessing white collar higher paying jobs that the central ca region severely lacks. A region that suffers from brain drain and despite having reputable colleges in fresno state, fresno pacific, several community colleges, and close by uc merced--many graduates and talented leave because the region has nothing for them in their field.

You mention that kind of possibility and vision to folks in the valley and they dont believe that could happen---people from fresno working in SJ or people moving to fresno from SJ due to real estate prices while retaining high paying jobs in SJ.

They dont seem to realize the many who already do 2-3 hour single way commutes from tracy/stockton area and even sacramento area.

I hear opinions from folks doing these mega commutes from sac or stockton/tracy area and provided good insight. Is if the central ca isnt supportive of it, we shoudlnt have even spent money there and used it to develop HSR lines from sac to the bay area and stockton/580 corridors.

I'm starting to get the impression that this rail project is never going to actually happen.

It’s only $5 billion or so. This is Brown’s failure.

How about a lot more reservoirs instead so we don't have to take spit showers when the next inevitable drought comes?

I’ll go you one better: how about we incentivize population reduction and exodus ... get back to sustainable numbers ... say 20 million ... tops.

I am in favor of incentivizing population reduction too. The easiest way to do it is by mandating E-Verify and having undocumented migrants self deport, ending the sanctuary state, etc. Another way would be to greatly reduce legal immigration since many of new immigrants to want to come to...California.

I agree immigration, both legal and illegal, should be stopped. But that’s just one piece of the puzzle. And, frankly, many immigrants, including illegals, make better Americans than a lot of the toads who are born to American families ... so let’s just incentivize everyone regardless.

The whole notion that a person should be granted automatic citizenship by reason of birth - even to citizen parents - without doing a damn thing to serve the nation’s needs and interests ... is nuts.

That covered, let’s not go any further off-topic into the immigration weeds, eh.
