Texas DPS is more strict on exceeding the limit though, which is okay. Those folks going 95+ were doing that regardless of speed limit changes.
True, most do not exceed 85, though a few do. However if he speed limit was at 85 more would be driving at that speed than is safe and the ones then driving faster would be a real danger.

I remember they testing such lanes in San Diego back in the early 2000s using lanes that look like HOV lanes. Though the testing came to an end a few years later.
I could see it happening on the stretches of the freeway in the middle of nowhere, such as to Vegas on the 15.

We have the same speed limit here on the West Coast that Florida does. I drive 75 or 80 mph on the Interstate, and I easily pass every single truck.
Here's the thing I'm speaking from personal experience. In Florida trucks travel at the speed limit of 70 m.p.h. or above the. The west coast is the only place where trucks are limited in speed so of course you'd pass them. In Texas, and Florida it's not the same I've had my cruise set to 85 on the 10 in the Florida panhandle recently, and literally had semis go around me. I was blown away, and that's why I'm saying this I wasn't aware just like you that these trucks are capable of these speeds. In Texas there's no limit on semis either so the speed limit of 80 is what trucks do, and I've seen this numerous times. Only on the west coast are trucks slugging along in. the right lane.

Exactly. Some folks don't realize that the west coast is the only place where semis are limited. In most states they are in the left lane with the fastest vehicles.

Not sure where you saw me say that it was a viable replacement. I'm just saying the speed limit should be raised or gotten rid of.

But in Germany, they don't drive like we do. You have to have cooperation for those types of speeds. We don't have a whole lot of cooperation with people on the roads here.

Are you aware that the US used to have many highways like that too? Even on many two lane highways, and that was back in the days when cars didn't have modern safety equipment, such as seatbelts and airbags. But that was back in the days before states figured out that they could make $10 billion a year writing speeding tickets. After the invention of radar guns suddenly speed was bad.

I’d settle for a 55 mph minimum on the 405.

the speed limit is for them to be able to stop quickly.

just imagine a semi with 40 ton load and speeding at 120mph?

do you want to be in front of that truck?
