It's funny to see some of you people complaining about making "only" 100k. Let's switch salaries and then you can let me know how bad 100k is.
Yes, we get it Neutrino. But what you don't want to get is you're the one whose the outlier here. When people come on these threads, they want general mainstream advice. I'm not knocking you for being an outlier. In many ways, it's a good and admirable thing. I'm a quasi-outlier myself in terms of my relatively high savings and modest spending and living on less than most people at my income level would do. But not being willing to recognize that you're an outlier isn't a good thing.

Yes, the water in NorCal is cold year round--as in, rarely above 60F, even in July, August, and September, our warmest months.

The current that runs off the California coast is a cold current, so the summer water temperatures here are much colder than at the same latitude on the East Coast.

Typical afternoon highs at the beaches in NorCal in Summer are still in the mid to high 60s, except at Santa Cruz, which is a 'banana belt' because it's a south facing beach. Sacramento to the nearest beach is probably more like 2.5 hours at best. The drive to Santa Cruz would probably be more like 3.5 hours from Sacramento.

But it's too far from Downtown L.A., Santa Monica, LAX, or Disneyland and you'll be fighting though traffic to get there.

Just not during the winter time. It has been snowing a lot and I-80 through the sierras have been closed.

This is a very unusual winter with much greater snowfall than average. Normally, that is not the case. Folks have been driving to Tahoe to ski from lower elevations for decades and it hasn't been a problem. Chains may be required. But the same thing is true for most ski destinations when it dumps. No way is winter normally off limits for skiing, snowboarding, etc...

Is it possible to find this in Cali or would be be better off in a different state?
Median price of a home in Tampa Bay, FL: $228 K. I think you'd be much better off there.

Not really. Half the people in Silicon Valley share housing (the people who make less than the median salary of 100k, and some who make more). So you're suggesting that 50% are outliers? I beg to differ.

Yes and like 80% voted for Trump. No thanks, I'll stay here in my home, where I grew up, Silicon Valley.

Can you quote the source of this data?

So if 100k is the median, that means half make less and therefore share housing.
