My thought exactly!! Still can't afford to buy the average homes in most of these cities. In West LA making 300k still won't get you much in terms of a home.

People who bought years ago could conceivably live there with an income of $300K. I don't know the LA towns but know a number of the Bay Area towns. Hard to believe one could afford to buy a place in those neighborhoods with a $500K income if one didn't already have a couple of million in equity in prior real estate (or shares in Uber).

There is a Stanford zip code (actually two zip codes) separate from Palo Alto. It would include the campus and houses around the campus, I think. According to Wikipedia, "Stanford is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Clara County, California, United States and is the home of Stanford University. The population was 13,809 at the 2010 census, with a daily population of 35,000. Stanford is an unincorporated area of Santa Clara County and is adjacent to the city of Palo Alto."

Professors could easily live in houses owned by Stanford that might be in the CDP. Depending upon the field, some will have substantial incomes (CS, EE, business school, etc.). However, if they count the students, I don't see how median income could be particularly high.

Just don't have people like Bernie Sanders or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in charge or they'll take most of the income and give it those who make $0

You used the accurate method as well. Most default to median household income winch is always going to be lower in area's that are more Urban. Family income is an Apple's to Apple's comparison of cities.
