Yes, they absolutely love criminals. It's an untapped pool of soon the be voters. They start giving them leniency on punishments, letting them out early, normalizing deviant activity, give felons voting rights. Liberal democrats, socialists, progressive whatever they go by now are sick in the head. For them, there is no crime heinous enough to warrant punishment except maybe misgendering someone.

Do you disagree with self-defense laws? That's essentially what the death penalty is. It is protecting citizens and other criminals from the worst of the worst. People are up in arms when the police use deadly force and start calling for the death of law enforcement but if some guy in prison gets his skull bashed in while in prison it's ok to let the assailant go unpunished

If some guy who gets out of prison for a break in, and bashes in someones skull, he just goes back. No real punishment at all.

Yes if only. But that would solve some of the recidivism and progressives certainly don’t want that as this thread demonstrates.

I absolutely believe a recall petition should be started to get this jerk out of the state house.
He as much as told the voters to F you.

WE voted two times to keep the death penalty here, and now this fool states it's his way or the highway.

LET'S GET A RECALL STARTED.

Bob.

I thought recalls were for when an elected official broke the law. What laws has Governor Newsome broken? He has not eliminated the death penalty, he's just put it on hold just as Governors of other states have done. Stats show the death penalty to not be cost effective. Looks like he's trying to save money. Aren't you the crowd calling for cutting state spending? Oh the bullet train is too expensive! Remember that? The people also voted for high speed rail. I guess Republicans can't win elections at the ballot box, as they have nothing to run on, so they resort to calling for recalls.

It appears that a majority of Californians now oppose the death penalty:

Quote:
President Donald Trump accused Gov. Gavin Newsom “defying voters” by suspending California’s death penalty, but new polling suggests Californians are coming over to the Democratic governor’s side.
A record share of Californians told pollsters the state’s worst murderers should face life in prison instead of execution, according to a Public Policy Institute of California survey, which gauged opinions on issues from housing to pension liability.

Newsom faced harsh criticism from Republican leaders when he announced earlier this month he won’t allow executions during his term. Californians voted in 2016 not only to uphold the state’s death penalty, but also to speed up executions.

But the Public Policy Institute’s results indicate if voters are asked again, they might side with Newsom. The poll found 62 percent of California adults and 58 percent of likely voters prefer life imprisonment to capital punishment for those convicted of first-degree murder. https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics...8&bid=85004253

Until it happens to someone close to them... then minds change.
Until they understand the cost of housing a scumbag... then minds change.

On the other hand, I am ambivalent about it. If you are for the death penalty, then I believe you should also be OK to serve as executioner. Would I? I don't know.

UH, Gray Davis was recalled and not over a broken law but over raising the cost of car registration by law.

I think for most people the bigger issue was the quid pro quo with the Prison Guard union million dollar + campaign contributions. The payback was giving guards peace officer status and raising their pay to the same as CHP and most local LE Officers
