Hi Rosie, it looks like your source reflects data as of 2011. I also specifically recall that the CSA had been expanded to include Stockton, Modesto, and Merced, and updated sources show that to be the case: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_...atistical_Area

The SF-OAK CSA now includes nearly 9.7 million people. Stockton and Modesto were added a few years ago, and Merced joined last fall.

That's interesting. Nonetheless, the thread question was metros not csa and Stockton, Modesto, and Merced are all candidates.

Off topic I know but just out of curiosity I wonder is it possible that Sacramento could be included to form a mega region or is that too tall of an order?

Just cause El Centro and Arvin were mentioned first doesn't mean they are not ignored

Imperial County cities are very ignored. Siskiyou and Modoc counties are fairly unknown too, although Mt Shasta helps a little.

Exactly, with the health crisis of the Salton Sea looming over Imperial County, there has been nothing done to help stop it, we are literally so ignored that california doesn't care if we all die of asthma, oh but let it hit Palm Springs and Coachella Valley (it will eventually destroy their tourism economy) then they'll care.

I remember watching a documentary about the Salton Sea and the communities around it a few years ago. Even mentioned that tilapia were stocked for fishing.

I can see Stockton and Modesto being part of the SF-Oakland CSA, but how did Merced get in there?

Merced is a good 2.5 hours from San Francisco and Oakland. And probably the same distance from San Jose???

Merced is 45 minutes from Fresno, which seems like it would be the metro area that took Merced in, not SF-OAK.

It's all about commuting patterns. If you live in Merced but work in Fresno, you might as well live in Fresno since prices are similar. But Merced provides an affordable (but very far away) option for Bay Area commuters.
