When one truck tries to pass another truck by speeding up from 60 to 62 mph, dozens of cars have to slow from 75-80 to 62 for several miles at a time, and it happens over and over again.

Up in the northeastern part of the state, two highways 299 and 89 intersect, and for decades they simply intersected with no control at all. Mostly it worked, but every so often two cars would approach at the same time and neither car thought they needed to stop. Horrific, high speed accidents. Eventually, they added yellow warning lights and noise bumps, but the accidents didn't stop. Finally, they put in stop signs and it became a 4-way stop in the middle of nowhere.

Up north, it's not so much that they need more capacity, they need safety improvements in various spots, and maybe more passing lanes to get around slower moving lumber trucks in the mountains.
The issue about having to drop from 75-80 mph to 62 for a passing truck in the left lane could be resolved if they allow one speed limit for all vehicles like they do in most other states. I think it's a significant hazard to have a posted 15 mph difference between trucks and cars.

Then again on weekends for those trekking to socal or monterey, you have to go early.

My only concerns of improving 152 to multi lane, for one im sure will require some eminent domains to expand, and it will just encourage more people to live in los banos or further as it will make the commute faster, and gilroy expanding development east of the 101 and offset all of the expansion to begin with lol
We have come a long way though, I remember as a kid in the early 80's US 101 was a four lane highway south of San Jose to Gilroy with no median barrier (Monterey Road aka Blood Alley).
