Next time your friends say any of the below:

Canada has more:

liberal politics
expensive gas
expensive home prices
more crowded development
taxes
environmental regulations
gun control
atheists
Asians

than America, say:

"I agree, except in California!"

(Seriously, our gas prices are higher than Ontario and Quebec. Only British Columbia and Newfoundland beats us--and even then, San Francisco likely has gas prices rivaling British Columbia.)

The only reason why we have lower income taxes than Canada right now is because of Trump tax cuts. If California declared independence, it would doubtless skyrocket back to Canadian-like highs. Much of Canada actually has lower property taxes (percentage wise) than California.

IMO, we are more distinct from the rest of the U.S. than Texas is.

As a Republican who’s resided in California for the last 1.5 years, I haven’t really been that negatively affected by the state’s liberal regime.

Taxes aren’t really all that bad, the roads where I live are in great shape and the crime level is ok. People speak english everywhere I go, no idea where all the illegals are but I never see them. The only real problem that I’ve had with the libs is they keep trying to import homeless into my upscale community, but their efforts have largely failed up until this point.

It’s not the hell hole that some of you guys make it out to be, and I have no regrets over moving here.

If you can afford it and live in a nice area you will be fine except maybe when visiting the downtown of a major city. Then panhandlers and homeless will be there. CA is not a hell hole, but it does have problems.

Cool. This is good to know, since I'll be moving out there within just a few weeks. BTW, I'm neither a liberal nor a conservative. They've both got their good as well as bad points, though I lean slightly left.

Funny, because CA is the image that most people overseas connect with the US.

As a moderate Republican who was born in San Francisco I like Where I live in CA. Its a wonderful state. I just ignore the liberal politics, but enjoy the benefits thereof. I don’t mind paying the taxes esp when they fund programs that I benefit from. As far being a hell hole, sure LA and Bay Area traffic, granted, but the worst traffic I ever experienced was in Chicago. Homeless problem...and where in North America is this not an issue? You want expensive....try Portland, Seattle or Vancouver BC.

As I’ve said before, LA and the Bay Area comprise a tiny fraction of the land mass of CA.

expensive gas you haven't been to Canada lately
expensive home prices Try Vancouver
more crowded development
taxes
environmental regulations and it's a bad thing to regulate logging and water pollution??
gun control I just bought a .40 caliber Glock. Try doing that in Canada. Nice weapon BTW
atheists As a Christian I respect people's freedom of choice. BTW Eastern CA is called the Bible Belt of the west
Asians OK racist. Got a problem with Asians?

If the country is gravitating away from facilitating people living life on their terms, the liberty to practice their beliefs again, on their terms and the pursuit of happiness for everyone here, then we do suck.
